Lyris MailShield Blocks 'Love Bug'

Berkeley, CA - 19 May 2000 - Lyris Technologies, the leader in email management software and services, announced today that its award-winning MailShield filtering software has been specifically enhanced to block email with attachments that transmit the "ILoveYou" virus.

Lyris MailShield is a server-based email filtering solution that coexists with any mail server to monitor incoming and outgoing messages.

MailShield blocks the "Love Bug" virus by detecting and quarantining all incoming email with ".vbs" or other designated attachments, and by scanning the subject line of all incoming mail for banned key words. Lyris recommends that this blocked mail be deleted immediately, but it can also be routed to an administrator for review.

"Many of our several hundred MailShield customers have already configured their servers to block the various mutations of the Love Bug," said John Buckman, CEO and founder of Lyris Technologies. "Our two year track record of successfully stopping unwanted email protects Lyris customers against this latest type of attack."

System administrators can configure MailShield to block incoming mail with other types of attachments or text strings in the message header, subject or body. In total, MailShield offers more than 50 different customizable filters.

Delivery speed increases after the installation of MailShield, as the software's filters remove large quantities of junk email that typically impacts performance. MailShield also prevents abusive relay attempts and can perform source validations.
