Tips and Tricks: Viruses, Worms, and Other Ugly Creatures

Even though Lyris ListManager and Lyris MailShield Server are primarily intended as email marketing/publishing and anti-spam solutions, respectively, we've noticed that several creative customers are leveraging these applications to fight the latest viruses, worms, and unfriendly attachments such as "Sobig."

For example, National Education Association Webmaster Ray Daly recently reported on ListManager-Discuss that he has set up his ListManager server to automatically reject all attachments, heading off many potential malicious ride-alongs. Another user notes on MailShield-Discuss that his company used MailShield for outbound mail filtering to prevent perpetuation of the Melissa virus some years ago.

Lyris does not provide support for virus protection. But to learn more about how your peers are using Lyris solutions to help manage virus issues, or to share your own ideas, we encourage you to subscribe to one or more of our lively and valuable discussion lists. You can also search the discussion list archives. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the lists!
