Creating an RSS Feed with Lyris ListManager
Should you send out an email or blog it? Do both! Publish your newsletter as an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed-automatically!
RSS is an easy way to get news and information on the web. Instead of receiving emails or visiting a website, readers use an RSS aggregator to collect XML-formatted articles.
ListManager versions 8.0 and above automatically publish your email messages as an RSS feed, and make it available to anyone who can access your ListManager's Discussion Forum. (Please note that the RSS function requires you keep message archives, the default setting.)
To make your list accessible via RSS:
- Navigate to Utilities: List Settings: Basic Information.
- Select the Enable Features tab.
- Set Archive messages? to "Yes, save and archive messages sent on this mailing list".
- Click save.
To access your list's RSS feed:
- Navigate to your list's Discussion Forum Interface. The URL to the Discussion Forum Interface will be formatted as follows:
http://example.com/read/rss?forum=forumname
Replace example.com with the domain name of your ListManager server, and forumname with the name of your list.
- Log in if requested. If the list allows visitors, non-members will be able to subscribe to the list's RSS feed without actually subscribing to the list.
- Select the About tab:
- Click RSS 0.92.
- Copy and paste the resulting URL into your RSS aggregator. If the list requires you to log in to view the list, the RSS URL will be formatted to include your email address and password (encrypted).
Put a link to ListManager's RSS feed on your Web site to let your audience know they can get your messages with RSS as well as by email.
