The most important thing in email marketing is to not associate yourself with spam-like sending habits. Most spammers try to keep their sending practices as quiet and “fast” as possible. When I say fast, I mean to say they send the emails out as quickly as they can, in hopes of generating a large number of opens and click throughs. These practices can definitely get you into trouble real fast.
It's important to understand a few things before you get ready to send your mailings. This can include sending only limited amounts of volume to the top domains, consistent sending patterns, and the like. These are the types of patterns you need to be conscious of as an email marketer.
There a number of things you can do to ensure you have non-spam-like email content and practices. Here are the top 3 best practices:
1) First, you should almost always have a double opt-in for your email list. This is a highly valued best practice in email marketing .
2) As mentioned above, you should ensure your mailing frequency is consistent. If you send twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, make sure to maintain the same frequency for subsequent mailings. ISPs tend to monitor the patterns of your mailings, so best be sure to stay consistent.
3) Make sure you are following the standard unsubscribe process as outlined in the CAN-SPAM regulations. You should always allow your members to easily unsubscribe from your mailings. This ensures they will not be hitting the spam button.
